Well, I like the song somewhat. I LOVE the sound of it, the progression of chords is lovely. THe words are very depressing and emo, though, which is probably the only thing I don't like about this song. I think Green Day's old school stuff is much MUCH better than the American Idiot stuff. (*cough* Longview *cough*)

K, seriously, what's the problem with the song? It's overplayed as hell, yeh, but it's an awesome song. Green Day doesn't suck, and what the Hell!! The song is NOT about them. This album or song wasn't some little whine and cry trip for them. Check your facts before submitting something you think has meaning. The entire album is about one character, Jesus of Suburbia and Blvd. of Broken Dreams was a song on how Jesus feels alone and wishes he wasn't a loser. Okay, no offense, but some people here are really stupid. This song isn't them whining about being alone. The album 'American Idiot' is about a character (not them), and every song is about that main character, not about them. It's acutally about a guy named Jesus of Suburbia, who is tired of being a loser and having no life, who leaves home, and then feels alone and stuff. Not about them whining about being lonely...the song is great, just got a little overplayed.

Green Day is an awesome band and this is one of the top 3 or 4 songs on this album. I like a lot of old rock and 80's rock(ex: led zeppelin, guns n' roses, van halen.) Green Day is not punk. Nor is New Found Glory. Nor is A Simple Plan. Nor is Sum 41. Nor is Blink 182. Stop calling these bands punk. I put them in a different classification: soccer mom rock.
As for 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams', well it's ok. It sounds like an emo song. It's soft rock. Very pop. Radio-friendly. Bubble gum. But it's catchy, I'll give them that. I prefer older Green Day. Dookie was a good album.

Oh dear god, what a song. Its the perfect rock ballad. The vocals are stunning, the bass line its great, the drums sound great, the guitar riffs are AWESOME. I don't know what you people are smoking. But it must have given you all residual brain damage. If you can not tell the difference between something, lets say ORIGINAL and something that is NOT original ( see: Boulevard of Broken Dreams / also see: any country or rap song). Then you need to be ripped out of your beds in the middle of the night, draged through the streets and beaten to death, 2 times. But thats just me. So if you like unoriginal no talent hacks, I'd suggest running out and buying it as fast as you possibly can. American Idiots, not the right words but certainly the first ones that come to mind.

this is my favorite song at the time. :-) Each time that i hear it play I am very pleased. I like this osng because it hardly has any naughty language in it, and the song makes sence. Yes, the basic underlying rythym and chord switches are similar to many 90's britpop, the mix shows this with some parts of wonderwall, writing to reach you and backbeat thrown in.
Boulevard isn't very original, its just a slight tweaking of older songs with more guitars.

This song has got to become a single. it is an unbelieveable tune. This song was so great that it brought tears to my eyes when i first heard it. i own every Green Day album, and (sorry Dookie fans) American Idiot is the best album they have EVER recorded. Being the lead singer/guitarist of my own band Wanda, Billie Joe Armstrong is pretty much my main inspiration.
