Ashlee rocks and pops. Pieces Of Me went 3 weeks at # 1 in my chart. Cool song I really can relate with. The second coolest song of 2004 for me (of course after Toxic by Britney Spears and second coolest artist of 2004 for me of course after Britney Spears again.) Ashlee can sing, perform, act, and dance... she got genius talent.

What a horrible song! Stupid lyrics and a stupid singer. I mean, I heard the song on the radio one time, (me flicking threw the channels since there was nothing else on,) and I can still remember some of the awful lyrics. What you hear on MTV and other main stream venues are nothing more than 'pre-packaged' garbage for mass consumption. The Industry is so flooded with 'Made-up' artists that I stopped listening to the Radio years ago.
Having tattoos and acting tough seems to be the prerequisite (sp?) for selling albums these days.....sadly. Just like dressing like a tramp and acting like a tart (ashlee, britney,etc.)

I Ashlee Simpson! She has no talent whatsoever, for her it is not even about the music, or being a punk, it is just about bein like her big sis and getting rich off off American tweens. All of you have no idea how long ive been waiting for this moment, when no talent frauds like ASSLEE get exposed for who they really are, POSERS!!! And on live TV, too. I am by no means a super ashlee simpson fan but i do feel that i need to defend her (and lip-synching) just a little.
When a singer knows that she won't sound very good singing live, of course perhaps they'd rather lip-synch than sounding like total crap, take your pick: listen to a dying cat or knowing that they're lipsynching. At least then they acknowledge that they may have some problems singing live. With ashlee's recent screwup, it makes me wonder how many modern 'rock bands' are doing the same thing (having a band playing the music and having vocals played separately) or having prerecorded vocals to make it *sound* live and different from their albums/radio. (you can tell they're singing live if their gasping for air? or some other 'symptom'? who knows, even that may be pre-recorded) I absolutely don't mind lipsynching on pop artists such as britney spears. Why? Because her songs are upbeat and she dances throughout, its really hard to sing perfectly when ur doing twists turns flips rollovers jumps or any swift movments while singing.
Anyway, for those who think that they can sing better (and possibly do), but however are not acheiving as much fame as some of the famous singers out there, you're either just not trying enough, being overly ambitious or are not ambitious enough, or you are being marketed poorly. As long as one has the will (and to take action of it) you can too be just as or even more successful as anyone else. Just like finding a job, if you don't make yourself outstanding in your interview, you won't get hired even if your resume is beats out everyone elses, simple as that.

How on earth did that horse-faced, talentless, loser get as far as she did? When the only job you have is to sing (not play an instrument or write songs), you should be able to at least sing live! I'm not buying the excuses...so far I have heard three: the band, a voice backup malfunction, and acid reflux. PLEASE! Why couldn't she just stop the band and start over again? Could it be because she was afraid that the vocal 'help' wouldn't come back on again? Anybody that likes her or think that she is anybody special must be pretty damn retarded themselves. Never in history has music been so upside down. The emperor of Austria probably would've had Mozart publicly executed if he found out his performances were somehow fraudulent. Of course the technology didn't exist at the time, so SURPRISE every musician at that time had to practice his ass off to be better than the next person, and not just perform fellatio on some producer to get ahead in life.

There are two things that are bothering me about this whole thing. 1st - The press and the media are saying that the first song went on without a hitch. That is not true. Anyone who saw the first song, heard that there were two A.S. voices in the beginning, and that she was off 'sync' during the first 20 or 30 seconds. 2nd - There is blame for SNL to be in the sham. Untrue. They are prepared for live performances most of the time, not fake ones. We all know about Janet and Brittney, but they probably have their own people doing this for them, not the crew of SNL. They are not to blame. The only person to blame is A.S. herself. She put herself in this position. She made her bed and now must lay in it for quite sometime.
My anger is only from the fact that A.S. has had her way paved for her due to the success of her sister. She did not work hard to get where she is. There is so much talent out there who deserve a record deal. It is a waste of money and time that Geffen handed her a record deal when real talent is dying for the chance. Shame on A.S. for using all that Jessica has built up, to ensure her success.

It never fails to amaze me how bitter and jealous people can be. Ashlee Simpson performed and lip synced...like many other performers I've seen on previous SNL shows!! Big friggin deal...get over it! If you don't like her music don't listen to it, if you don't believe in supporting her, don't buy her bloody cd. Stop talking about how she deceived her audience like she's some evil villian out to do wrong. Get over complaining about how she's deceiving her fans. If you're a grown adult, you should know this stuff happens - it's rare to find any artist who sounds half as good live as on their record, while most lip sync at one time or another whether you notice it or not!! As for the kids being cheated, most kids only care about the music and what it sounds like. They're rarely so anal as to sit in their rooms thinking about all the technical crap...they just like how the music sounds and how it makes them feel.
I'm a singer (in the works) myself, and somewhat a fan of Ashlee's. I don't feel cheated one bit! NO I'm not niave, NOR am I blind or stupid. What I am is a person who is capable of seeing someone have success and being happy for them, rather that waiting for them to sink and fail. She's done what many performers have, only unfortunately for her it went wrong. I feel sorry for her really, most people with a heart would. I can't think of any performer (no matter how much i may dislike their work) who deserves so much hate. It's pretty lame really. I graduated from a famous college for music as a voice performance and songwriting dual major. One of the first things that is taught, Semester one, Month one, Week one is how to count off a band and cut them off. If something goes wrong, you cut them off and count it off again. It happens everywhere from rock shows to symphonic concerts, to choral concerts to SNL. S*** happens. What you do is cut off the music and count them in again. It's not hard. You snap your fingers and count to four. Had she done that I would have had mad respect for her for showing she's in control of the situation and knows what she's doing. She obviously can't sing well for she even sounds like crap on her album and now we know that she doesn't even bother singing live. But what she's also been exposed for is an ameteur pretend artist who doesn't even know the elementary ABC's of performing live. Did anyone notice that Ashlee's band was SMILING as they played through the song, trying to cover for her? Her little ho-down dance, a sad attempt to distract the audience, was pretty hilarious. Y'know, this pop music stuff isn't as big as everyone thinks. I never heard of this chick before this morning when a friend emailed me about it.
To paraphrase someone else, the ability to see a forgery is inversely proportional to the amount one has paid for (or bought into) it. So, don't attack those defending the fraud; they are only following their nature, they have no choice.
As for the band, well, any time you're playing beats any time you're waiting tables. Every session and backup musician I've ever known has his side project going. Here's hoping these guys hit it big someday. By the looks on their faces, I'd say they'll have no problem getting another gig.
Saturday Night Live? Well, she lip-synced it LIVE, and sometimes things happen. I'd bet dollars to donuts it was planned by someone.
What I liked the best was how stupid she looked jumping around on the stage.

When, I first heard Ashlee Simpson on the radio last month on the radio in the Green Zone, Iraq, and I thought it was a good song and thought about how nice it would be coming back home. When I saw the SNL show at the base and saw her attempt to lip sync and then danced around and waited for someone to do her job and then exited the stage. I felt sick and angry about all the real talanted music artist that try so hard to make it in the music industry, and she acted like it was funny. At the end of SNL she rambled about the band playing the wrong song. Placing the blame on the band was way out of line. She should be very ashamed about deciveing her fans and giving the percepetion of being a role model for teens, and making a mockery of those music artists that work so hard to make it in the industry. From the looks of her band, they were relived to see the truth about the fake that she is and expose lies that without being sued or not labeled as begin not loyal to each other. The lyrics to the song are good. Just let someone that is real deserve the credit.
Shame on you Ashlee Simpson for being dishonest. Go sell snake oil some where else. To those that support her. Wake up and smell the coffee! Dont allow fakes to make money off you! Stand up to the B.S.

What did the band do that everyone is blaming them for? They put the wrong tape in? It was clearly a prerecorded voice and music at the start...then the band did what they should...they started playing for real! They picked a song and actually played. If Ashlee actually could sing, she'd join in like a normal singer. But it was too late to cue up another tape for vocals so she was lost. Poor thing, Pro Tools can't help you there.

I can't feel terribly sorry for her band. When you're enlisted to play as accessories to a tween idol simply because you pull off that fashioncore look so well, you don't get much 'street cred', as it goes. Honestly, this is probably a serendipidous gift that will come in the form of an anulled contract. Now they'll have the freedom to try and actually create real music (though it'll probably sound like atreyu or story of the year or some crap like that). But yes, it was foolish and childish of her to blame her band, but they should've known they'd be the scapegoats at the first sign of danger.

This is the second time I've seen Ashlee Simpson perform 'live'. The first time was at the teen awards and I could forgive her for lip-syncing there. But to lip-sync on a SNL, a show that prides itself on the entire 'live' concept is totally inexcusable. The moment Ashlee started breaking out in a goofy dance was the moment she knew her career was over. If you can't sing, don't front like you can, don't book yourself on live shows.

Regardless of what you think of her (like/dislike), I think it is a shame that SNL (a LIVE program) allows singers to fake it. They have done better than most to dissallow it, however more and more POP singers/posers are doing it.
I'd like to see SNL ban fakers. I'd also like to see Ashlee either be passionate about her music (not the fame/money) or leave the industry.

Ok there are some idiots on this board - namely anyone who believes she DID NOT lip sync or that IT WAS THE BANDS FAULT.
THe band was LIVE - as evidenced by the first song - when they were playing did you notice how the guitarist on the right, playing the black GIbson SG, walked up and pushed his distrotion footpedal - and viola - his guitar was louder and distorted? Yes...LIVE.
During the first act you could hear Ashlee and the lip sync track for a few seconds. THe 2nd song - who knows why the dummer was playing what he did - but do you really think that guy was so high or stupid that he did not realize he had JUST played that song 15 min ago? NO. He was mos tplikely starting the intro to the other song, when - listen to it over - the drum intro for the vocal track came in - see they have to sync up with the track for her to lip sync...then her track started playing -then the SNL sound crew realized what they did and turned it down...then the band decided to COVER for her. Why didnt she just STOP them - say oops and start the other song? Because she was going to lip synch that one too obviously and the track wasn't set up - MILLI VANILLI all over. She's done for. I actaully thought she had some little biut of talent. DONE FOR.
You can most likely get her CDs for 4-5$ this Xmas

This slip up is a good thing for all of her younger fans, or even her fans in general. It shows that faking your way through life will eventually catch up with you. It teaches a good lesson to aspiring musicians who look up to Ashlee, and who are now devastated. If you're going to play music, don't play this poppy, Top 40 bullsh**. It was really funny. It was the best coupleminutes of SNL since the early 80s.
As far as what anyone thinks about it, who cares? I feel bad for the people who are going to lose their jobs over it, other than Ashlee and the rest of the Simpsons, who already have enough money so that losing their jobs doesn't matter. What is the Controversy?? What is the Problem?? I went to this site immediatly after the show aired, and (then played it back in laughter a couple of times on TIVO) I saw the live version and made my comments here! She was caught lip syncing and hopped around the stage,ran off the stage, then blamed her band. THERE IS NO DOCTORING!! I SAW IT LIVE. I can't believe the level of denial that is going on here. Accept the fact that many pop stars lip synch and get over it. It's not a SNL skit, nor does SNL will enjoy getting bad reputation from a flopped live performance, the show and Ashlee will suffer for this 'skit' that fans here claim it to be.
I'm not saying she's a horrible singer, what I'm saying that we and other people who have stated they dont like her, is that we hate the fact she's deceiving you fans, and getting money out of the process, fans like you are going to pay for her CDs no matter what she does wrong, and it sickens me also when she tried to start singing at SNL and missed her 'cue', she didn’t even bother picking up at the next verse, so she was caught, the least she could do is to keep performing.
No instead, she dance a bit, than walked off stage.
Rule no. 1 in ANY performance, keep going NO MATTER what. Missed a beat? wait for the nest one. Missed a cue? wait for the next one. forgot a line? Improvise. as a performer you have to be professional and keep things going, even if the guitar breaks, or the CD player playing the karaoke version of song your performing breaks, it’s like how Lindsay start singing jingle bell rock after one of the girls breaks the CD player in the movie 'mean girls'. I'm not commenting on Lindsay here, but what her character did in the movie is what every performer should do, keep going.
Ashlee didn't , i guess this is why I really loathed her performance despite knowing that plenty of others have lip synched, lack of professionalism... if she can sing, she could at least sing in the mike, even if she was caught. Seeing her walk off the stage made me doubt that she even sang at all... for all we know it could a digitally enhanced vocal of another person, who knows? since all her live shows are going to be pre recorded, I guess will never know now will we?

I suggest that people complain to her label, Geffen and also to the RIAA. The RIAA are the people that are suing kids for downloading music, telling us how it hurts the 'artists'. I think they have a responsibility to protect the music buying fans as well, from deceptive practices such as lipsynching. Who would pay to see her in concert after this? How would you know if it's really her singing on the CD is she isn't able to recreate it live? If I owned one of her CD's I would return it to where I purchased it and ask for a refund...and if they refused, it would be sent back to the label. People like her get stinking rich because we buy their CD's and concert tickets...they should have to earn it like everyone else.

The reason the dumb b**ch said her band messed up
is to salvage her fanbase who lack critical thinking
skills and are in awe of a fake, no talent, spoiled little brat. These people are victims of advertising, creating a persona that has no reality. Jessic4.... I was on the radio, even live on The Ed Sullivan Show & my band was never asked to return to the show because I didn't sell out & edit the true lyrics to Light My Fire. Also, I was pretty p*ssed that we had to edit out the 4 minute instrumental for network time. Basically the music industry today & then is full of a bunch of f**king slaves! I disagree with penpusher -- I don't think things are quite as strictly timed as he does, and in any case there's no reason some sort of filler (a commercial spot or even just a silent NBC logo card) couldn't have covered this up boner for the West Coast. SNL has been known to replace entire versions of sketches for the West Coast. It's been done before, as when Chris Farley's pants came down a little too far during a Weekend Update segment with Dennis Miller (this was a long time ago :) ). I have a hard time believing this couldn't have been concealed from the West Coast if the SNL producers wanted to. So one wonders if they didn't really want to. Maybe they felt burned by Ashlee leaving them in the lurch. penpusher:I tend to agree with Darin that lip-syncing on SNL is more common than you think. The Spice Girls were on more than 3 years ago and they were obviously lip syncing. One good clue that a band isn't miming a performance during a television appearance is if they put a clear plastic baffle in front of the drum kit. It's a good bet then that the drummer is really playing -- if I remember correctly, it's because having really loud stage monitors (which you need to hear yourself singing over a rock drummer playing 3 to 5 feet away) is a problem for the television production staff. Maybe this isn't so much of an issue anymore with in-ear monitors, but I've had suspicions about lip syncing on SNL back into the 1980s. I will grant, though, that Sinead O'Connor and Elvis Costello probably weren't lip syncing the performances that got them into big trouble NBC. :)

I'm puzzled why the West Coast feed didn't just drop the second musical performance altogether to run a commercial spot, and proceed straight into 'Bear City' as if no second performance had been scheduled.

I've always known that some of the performers who go on SNL lip-sync. But what is funny is to see what happens when the s**t hits the fan.
There was no hope of salvaging that the second performance. Due to the mess-up, the audience already knew that she was lip-syncing, it would have just been a bigger disappointment to watch a performance you know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, is being lip-synced. They probably would have booed her; I would have.

The only way to play recorded music like that is to have it prearranged with the studio -- in this case snl and nbc. Sorry to disappoint the fans, but Ashlee was planning to lipsync both songs and some techie played the wrong track for the second song. You might not have seen the full version, because it was edited out (to help Ashlee, since the studio messed up), but in the full version her song starts to play with her singing over it, and she hasn't even picked up the mic! Then she starts shrugging her shoulders and dancing, because she is unsure about what to do. Then the band starts playing the right song, but Ashlee is so shaken (and probably unprepared to actually sing) that she just runs off stage.
She may have said she was against lipsynching in the interview, but it is really common practice among all the new stars. Brittney does it without apology.

Ashlee on SNL was a daring move. To lip sync a song on a live show? Wow! That takes cajones. So, on that point she's got some respect.
However, it's clear that someone was out to prove her to be a lip sync artist and they successfully did just that. There is no doubt that the vocal track for 'Pieces Of Me' was recorded and played back. And the 'excuse' of blaming the band for 'playing the wrong song' only compounded matters. The band was doing everything in their power to make things better! Why saddle them with that?
Clearly, this is going to be a big story on the tabloid TV shows, on Howard Stern, everywhere they talk about entertainment. The only question now is whether Ashlee can salvage anything of her career? At least, maybe this'll mean she won't be singing?

I hope people who missed SNL get to see the what happened. Here's the full story: Ashlee had 2 acts - in the first one, you could hear 2 voices for the first 10 seconds and then the rest of the song was a lib-synced version. Everyone at my place agreed while it was happening that it was so obvious that it was canned. And then, we had validation when Ashlee came on for the second act! Before the band even started to play or before Ashlee held her mic up, we heard the 'ashlee' voice just like last time. The band and her clearly looked stunned as her vocals played for a second time. The band did a great coverup as they tried to play along. Ashlee shrugged her shoulders a few times, looked lost, and ran off. They lowered the sound of her taped voice as the band tried to play over it, but you could still hear it in the background.
The band tried a great cover-up but it was too late. Sadly, Ashlee then tried to blame the band for playing the wrong song at the end of the show - so pathetic! Just admit they started your fake vocals and you were caught!!!

It is a real relief to find these statements by other SNL viewers and to know that my daughter and I were not alone while watching Ashlee the sham. I thought she was lip-syncing to the first number because the song sounded overproduced for a live act and she was holding the mic so close to her mouth, and the second song (or not, as the case proved to be) reinforced it. I hope this gaffe is covered by media outlets like Rolling Stone et al and not just discussed on chat sites. fans who buy the crap need to know.

For the first song I called my wife in - 'Hey check this out, she's lip sync-ing'. For the next one my wife called me in - 'The vocals started before the mic was to her mouth and she ran off stage as they turned the vocals down to try and cover it up!' Unbelievable....but then again. Thing is Ashlee is just a dumb kid. The record companies convinced her she could be what here sister is. Sure she's partly to blame. But the A-hole who told her to go on at the end and blame it on the band is the one who should get fired and the band's the ones who are probably going to lose their jobs. At least they have some talent. They'll be alright. And it all begs the question - will Ashlee now be freed up to do some other serious work? Maybe she can team up with Paris Hilton. Maybe a reality show where they invite talented but poor people into their homes and keep them there just long enough that they get axed from their day jobs and then send them packing. Maybe call it 'Not My Reality?' And if all goes well George W will be free to host it in a few months. I'm there!

A friend gave me this CD because I somewhat enjoyed Jessica Simpson's last CD, In this Skin. After listening, I actually asked for the receipt and took it back. The songs are crudely written and void of any genuine emotion or thought. While this album might prove dramatic and thought-provoking for children under 12, for the rest of us, Ashlee Simpson will remain the poor, raspy-voiced, not as talented, ugly duckling sister of Jessica Simpson, forever riding the coat tails of a family member with musical talent. For those of you defending Ashlee Simpson as the greatest thing since sliced bread, get a hobby outside of watching MTV and worshipping wannabe's! Might I suggest finger painting...if you actually liked this album, we all know what age group you belong to!

Pieces of me should be called Pieces of.... (It rhymes with hit). When Ashlee Simpson sings, she sounds like she is in serious pain and i feel the pain upon hearing this crap. Ashlee Simpson is a terrible artist overall. If you saw her performance during the VMA pre-show, you saw she was completely off-key making an idiot out of herself. 'Pieces of Me' is actually one of the few songs that really means something. Not like the other one's where she becomes a totally different person who wants to do this guy in the kitchen on the floor or some crap like that. But 'Pieces' still gets a four because you can hear more of her backup singers than her (at least on my CD player). She doesn't lip sync like Hilary Duff, but she's just a big poser. And I really hate calling artists posers, but I don't think her songs are very genuine.

I keep reading these defenses of Ashlee like 'you're jealous'. Ah, the teenage mind at work. My second favorite is 'well, it started off #1 on MTV'. Look, it started off #1 because the music industry wanted to sell the records it made. They TOLD you it was number one so you would go out and buy the record. Do you think that radio stations and MTV actually listen to you when you call in and request a song? NOOOO. They TELL you what the hottest hits are, play them to death and get their $17 out of you. Ashlee is terrible, but the industry knows they can make some bucks out of propping her up and glamorizing her for a couple years. Look at her sister. She has more covers than original songs! The rest aren't even radio worthy. They're both a couple spoiled beverly hillbillies. You want a new artist with real talent? Try John Mayer - he plays the guitar like it's his third arm and sings very well at the same time. His roots are the blues and he plays the blues. Oh, the punk thing? Look, I'm not going to hate on Ashlee based on the nepotistic means by which she got where she is today; now, with that said, it must be made clear that she is a flat-out horrid singer. Even with her voice mechanized, her music still sounds awful. Furthermore, the fact that she doesn't write her own material, along with the lame popish rift and dopey lyrics that are inbeded in her music, is another reason to toally disregard her songs as worthless. Now, another question: Is she attractive? (Obviously, this is important in my mind, because I am entertained by adult contemporary singers such as Sarah McLachlan, Liz Phair, Michelle Branch, Alania Morrisette, etc., based on their attractiveness.) In Ashlee's case, she isn't attractive -- albeit not as f'n ugly as Haylie Duff -- but rather she is of average looks. In the end, the only redeeming value that Ashlee Simpson brings to the table is the ability that she has to create a reaction, which thusly means any song she creates automatically gets at least a one; now, with that said, it should be understood that the only point she is going to get is for that aforementioned fact, which thusly give her a one out of ten.

I've actually been listening to a lot of Avril lately; and I compared Avril to Ashlee currently, and Avril blew her out of the water. Ashlee's lyrics are really boring and what kind of a song is La La La? What is she saying there, honestly, someone tell me please. Anyways, I don't know if anyone else noticed, but there must've been at least 3 songs in Ashlee's album that I swore sounded like songs I've heard before, so it does not sound original at all. I think Ashlee is adorable. So WHAT if she has a record deal? So freakin' what people, if her sister Jessica helped her get famous? After reading all of the comments from previous posters, I found I have a completely different opinion than most. Ashlee may not be the most talented person in the world, but she is stepping out from behind her sister's shadow and pursuing her own dreams. She's able to sing, and able to write her own songs. That's definitely a step up from most other singers who can't even write their own songs. 'Pieces of Me' has turned out to be a huge hit. Her 1st album debuted at #1. There's something about Ashlee that's catchy, and perhaps in the future people who talk trash about her will like her. If ya'll don't like her, then don't pay attention to her, because she has a bright future ahead of her and she's gonna be a huge star.

second, i'm tired of everyone using 'why you don't you try it' as a defense. i am in a band with my brother and another guy and for the last two months have written our OWN songs(music AND lyrics) and they don't all sound like everyone else today. our influences are good we don't just say 'PUNK RAWK YEAH!'. we also don't TRY to be different. a lot of times we would just get together and jam and all of a sudden a riff or an idea would come through, not just somebody saying 'let's use the same chord progression as 10,000 other songs'. so you know i DO know what it's like to try and write songs and get yourself to the masses. another thing that doesn't make sense is how she gets so frustrated in the studio(yes, i've seen her show) and people have used 'you don't know what it's like to record' as a defense. well, my band and i have(from our OWN finances) set up a make shift recording studio and recorded all of our songs, AND MIXED AND PRODUCED THEM! i know a lot of you probably think that all you do is press record, sing, and you have an album, but that's not true. there are many more hours that go into mixing than into recording and we did all that while all she had to do was sing lyrics off a sheet.
i actually know something about REAL MUSIC. i got a 5 out of 7 on the International Baccaleaureate Music test. you all probably don't know what that is so go to google and look it up before you say something stupid. i know right off the bat that her songs are exactly like everyone else's. and although this doesn't really have to do with any music qualifications, her lyrics suck. whoever wrote it, i don't care. whether it was ashlee, or jessica, or some record label, or even her dog, whoever wrote her lyrics is a bad songwriter.
i have a lot more to say that you probably don't want to read so i'll just stop at that. you can like whoever or whatever you want but please don't call what you listen to music. go listen to something manufactured before 1900 or during the 1960's and 70's if you want to hear music. but you probably don't want to hear music you just want to hear cookie cutter pop crap.

I've heard her live and i think that it did sound a little funky but it's not easy to sing live when you're not accustomed to it, or raised to do it like Jessica was, she was more into teh dancing thing (which i give her props for). But her album does rock and she does have a good voice though she has to build stamina on stage. Why i love it the most is because it's my kind of album and her stage performance is awesome.

If you didn't know who was singing this stuff and heard it on the radio, I think more people would like it and it would be more respected in the.... alternative/punk/indie category. If I heard the song 'La La' on the radio, for example, I would LOVE IT a million times more. It's just because people have this connotation of who she is, who her sister is, and they get to see that she's fairly mild-tempered/ not rock n' roll on tv. She may not write her own songs, and yes, she is very much a processed pop image. But the songs themselves, regardless of her talent, or personality, are, quite frankly, really cool. And that's one completely unbiased opinion, looking at both sides. Cause think about it - if you heard 'La la' on 105.1 or some other alt/rock station, you'd like it, wouldn't you? That is, if you didn't know it was on ASHLEE SIMPSONS record. Her album on the whole is... OK. It's PROCESSED, sure. It's POP. But whoever wrote the basic songs I think deserves at least an 8.

I really liked this song but it is true that her voice is kinda taping on my nerves but that does not mean that she is a total loser. This song could be better. Just not catchy enough for me, and not that impressive anyway. Highly overrated on the charts. The first time i saw her on tv a couple months ago i swear she doesn't look like jessica's sis (looked more like britney actually). And she still does look like britney instead, with a big nose. She doesn't look bad, but its her nose that makes her look (to me) somewhat of a tucan/owl/some-bird.

Ashlee Simpson is one of those sad instances in which I want to justify her... want to forgive her... but in the end skip blaming her for the simple reason that the real person at fault here is the asshole who paid for her to stand in front of a mic. Is the song bad? By all legitimate standards: no. But what makes it 'not bad' is the same thing that makes it 'not good.' It is excruciatingly unoriginal, bland to an extreme, and typical... just another Hilary Duff or Olsen twin or Britney Spears... its like menudo just with different genitalia.
This is not worth the money... neither that which some would spend to get it, nor that which she was paid for 'making' it. It's sad to think that there is so much of this... mediocrity in the light of any number of talented young artists. Even if this genre is your 'thing' this is subpar generic crud.
And they wonder why the music industry is in the red? We may have the answer here, folks. Trust me: don't download this.
Also: for those who say 'JEALOUS!'... obviously, you're 12. And know nothing. So buzz off.

Ashlee Simpson is about as original as a manufactured voice can be. Poor thing. She strives to find herself, as we all do. Unfortunately, none of her music is believable and she even ripped off a guitar riff from Hole for her 'Surrender' song. Ever heard 'Celebrity Skin'? It's fun to play make-believe however. This is a prime example of the music industry abandoning it's morals and throwing sugar coated trash down people's throats to make millions of dollars. Ashlee is supported by a cadre of song-writers, musicians, PR people and technicians who prop her up and do most of the creative work. She's pitchy, doesn't play an instrument, probably can't read music and is living a celebrity's life without ever having worked for it. The garage band next door has more real talent - at least they play and write their own music. People like that deserve the shots!

Having written and performed music for over 20 years, I consider 'Pieces of Me' very well written. Especially for someone of her age and experience level. It has a good hook,a very strong bridge, and a 'sing out loud in the shower' chorus. For those who think she lacks the vocal talent to make it in live situations, this is a review for the song - not one performance on a talk show where the kid was probably extremely nervous. I can assure you she will improve. I know that I have lost my admiration for several older veteran 'artists' after seeing them on 'Saturday Night Live' - and most of them had been around quite some time. Hell, there are studio recordings out right now with out of tune vocals - OUTKAST for one! If thats the best they could do with 100 takes and todays technology, then I'd say Ashlee is way ahead of the curve. I wish my first track had what 'Pieces of Me' has to offer. It's one of those songs that will have people singing at the top of their lungs and playing the steering wheel drum set in traffic. Next time you hear it on the radio in your car - look around - you'll no doubt catch someone doing it. It may even be me.

Well, after listening I have to compare the song to Garbage...hell it's almost EXACTLY like garbage. They use the same way of making a catchy tune with that beat. While it does sound good I must say that it isn't very orignal. At least she writes a few of her songs unlike *cough*Avril Lavigne*cough* The problem is she will instantly be thrown in to success no matter how similar her album is to anybody else because when you have the record giants behind you, well lets just think of them as the mob alright? Absolutely a great pop rock sound. Ashlee has an incredible raspy edge to her voice and her songs are quite meaningful for the young adult population. I think with time she will write deeper songs, but for a first album (full CD available online at MTV.com to listen to for free) and especially her hit single 'Pieces of Me' are exceptional! Sorry, Jessica but Ashley has a much better voice and an edge that most aren't born with. She has lived in the shadow of her sister, unfortunately, and one of her songs shows us what that was like for her. Her single 'Autobiography' is a great song, too! She is going no where but up, up, up!!

Very very weak singer, mediocre song, more of the same production, auto-tuned to death. Her performance on Leno was unfortunate and embarrasing. What on earth was Geffen thinking? Any media made kid could step in and you wouldn't know the difference(Lindsay Lohan) next. The comparisons to Gwen Stefani are absurd. Jessica Simpson's enormous media presence is the only reason this record was made. Geffen Records, a label built on independence and revolution has sunk to its lowest.
