This album by Avril Lavigne rocks. Its real, its raw and its to the point. She is expressing her emotions through this album. I think alot of people can relate to what she is saying. I believe the best songs are written by people writing about there emotions and past experiences. Avril definetly did that.

So I was reading some of the past reviews and I read Haley say she din't like it that Avril was Canadian and stuff. All I can say is f*** you you stupid little bi***. Avril is a f***ing embarassment to Canada, I'll give you that. But no not try to insult my f***ing country. Let me guess, you're a dumbass American. See people, this is why the rest of the world f***ing hates you. You think you're the best damn country and yet every f***ing year, Canada is rated as a better place to live than America in almost every category. Not only that, our Prime Minister (that's the equivilant of your president morons) is not a complete dumbass. yes actually I am more into low level programming. Windows is most widely used on desktop PCs, but larger 'mainframe' computers such as web servers, SQL hosting, and NFS filesystem servers are usually running UNIX (or one of it's variants). I like assembly language a lot because it gives me more control over the processor than say a windows API function gives you. I don't rewrite all the API functions, but for routines that can't be done otherwise, it's nice to know assembly so that you can just write it and be done with it. (An example of this would be scanning a bootsector for virii). A large downside to assembly language (not the GNU assembler specifically) is that it is completely architecture dependent. I cannot use my x86 assembler routines on a z80 or MC68000. :-( Java is a nice language for writing neat little programs that have nice GUIs. I do some stuff in Java but a huge downside of it is also one of it's upsides- Java cannot be turned into an executable binary file. (not with Sun's JSDK at least). Another thing is that Java is slow. If you have a fast processor it's not too slow, but compared to an equivalent program in C/C++ it's like going back to 386's. Java was originally created because this guy over at Sun was having trouble writing an OS for a palm pilot using C++ - so he goes gallavanting off, creating his own language, taking a team of developers with him. It's a nice little language to use, but for it's intended purpose (replacing C++) it's not exactly meeting the standards. I haven't used .NET. (don't exactly have the money to pay for it) Isn't MFC just another dialect of C++? I'm not sure. Windows 95/98 are just messy operating systems, win NT was nice, and XP is probably their best OS yet, and longhorn looks enticing - but as a rule of thumb I don't really support a particular company, especially not one such as microsoft. (if you want to see my motives for this, a great example would be the 'browser wars' chapter of the book 'Fire in the Valley') My favorite languages as of now would have to be assembly and C/C++ for systems programming, and perl for internet programming. I was sorry to mistake you - I thought you were just some kid who goes around using phrases like 'u83r 1337 h4x0r' not having a clue about the meaning of it all. I was wrong and I apologize.

Lol, Jake, I wasn't picking on you at all. And I've never had the chance to use the leet word before, its usually a term reserved for gamers so I wanted to try it, even though I'm quiting games while I study 1's and 0's. But just for good messure, I would like to back myself up by saying that I do know as much as you, and if you ever want to get together on a project, I'm there. :) FIRST: assembly is the code that we hand to the cpu, it is one step above the lowest level, which is hex, I think, or just 1's and 0's, I never get into it because I havn't had a need for such low level control. SECOND: I don't do UNIX(yet), Java is my connection for everything outside of Windows. I'm a .NET programmer, which is a huge world in and of itself. I use the win32 api for hardcore crap the .net framework can't get to. I hope to get to MFC, XML later this year. How hard is MFC? I heard its got one heck of a step learning curve. (Whats your favorite language right now Jake?) Oh, and why bother programming for UNIX since the majority of computers run windows? I know, I know, its good to experiance different stuff, but I was hoping for a better reason. It sounds like you like low level things. Graphical things are my favorite, like D3D/OpenGL, or the new up and coming Avalon 3D in Longhorn. Give me some insight on what you do. And dang it, I'm not getting on your nerves.

I don't usually have a problem with music artists, but this one really hits home hard. avril lavigne is good musically, but socially, she's made most of the real 'punk' community infuriated. Her c***y attitude and generalizations for just about everything in the world are cute and attractive to some, but for those of us who actually know the culture that she claims she is a part of, see her as a mockery of it. If you really want to respect the punk community, you'll listen to her music only for it's musical value, and not for her attitude.

I didn't move to a small town. I moved from a small town where I usually live to a large town. I did this because I needed to find a summer job to make enough money for university next year. The place where I usually live is so damn small that I couldn't find a job that would give me more than like 20 hours a week. So I moved to a big town where I found a job right away. Im only going to be there for 2 months then back to university.

In my haste to lecture..:) I forgot give my review. It is ezcellent.I give it a 10!! This from some one who has never bought an Avril CD. It is what it is. It is perfect for the audience who listens to it. It has a good melody, lyrics suit her age group. They are lyrics that a lot of girls and others can relate to. It's doing exactly what it is supposed to do. It is selling like hot cakes. As far as I'm concerned, she's another Canadian doing well all over the world and I'm damn proud of her. A far as the level of maturity, she is only 17 18 whatever she is. Let her grow. Maybe when she is 25, she will write songs that you Avril haters will like. I will use Van Halen for an example. VH fans seem to want their band to never grow and evolve. They want David Lee Roth who has never changed and keeps singing cheese. Sammy is great on all fronts. He has a great voice for singing rock and Ed keeps churning out the powerful rock guitar that everyone should expect. You can never please everyone, but insults and death threats ? Come on..no thanks. People are dying all over the world with no food in their bellies and we're wishing death to people who write songs we don't like.? No wonder other countriea are shaking thier heads at us westerners. Lets not take things so serious.

Also, David does not represent Canada. His view on GOD is horrendous, I don't believe in GOD either, however, I do not lash out at people who do. It sounds like Dave has other issues un related to pop music of culture. Just feel sorry for him and others like him who come to these sites to lash out at people who are doing better than he is doing right now, and if they bring up Canada being better than the US, just laugh at him.Don't blame Canada for an idiot like him. I would first like to say that I'm Canadian and I really hate it when losers at any age bring Canada VS the US into stupid arguments. It has nothing to do with music reviews. Here is David hacking away Avril like she is some kind of disease. She is a human being writing music. She is doing what it is she wants to do with her life. If she sucked, no one would buy her album and she would not be the subject of so much hate. I too have a few years on David and I too am a pro musician. I think all Ken is trying to relate ( except he got too pi**ed off to give a sh** anymore ) is that musicians who are pros know what it takes in this industry to make it. Let's put it this way, if Avril is reading this, she is probably laughing at David. (all the way to the bank ) what is real music to David anyway? I listen to jazz, fusion, classic rock & just about everything except rap...I do not see rap as music and I dislike it very much, However, I would never say that everyone who listens to that stuff should die. It is another medium of art. (except everyone is doing the same thing and saying the same thing, so it is hardly art ) but anywho, if people like it , than it is valid. That is what maturity will do for your outlook on life. I hope that David takes the up coming election in Canada as serious as he does his opinion on pop music. Also, for a guy who plans to move to the states, I would watch your mouth down there. You don't want to be on the next episode of AMW. I would beat the snot out of a c***y American or anyone else if they got personal about my country over a music review. Maybe that is what you need Dave. He's all yours people of the US. Wow. I cannot tell you the amount of hilarity you have brought to my afternoon. David, that's your name, right? It's 'realize,' not 'relaise.' I'm not sure what's up with you people but gimme a break. I only got on this site to see what people were saying about Avril's new album and instead, I see an excess of profanity, obscenity, and inane insults. As for the song 'Don't Tell Me,' I would have to say that musically it's extremely average, lyrically not much better, but message-wise pretty good. I agree heartily with her on her ideals. The one rather casual swear word in the song is a turn off and makes the song sound just a little more juvenile than it needs to be. I do like Avril Lavigne, however. She often writes good music, a lot of it is extremely catchy, and she's definitely saying something we're not hearing from a lot of other artistic corners. I do think this album shows more depth than her first did though I own both). Her voice is probably the reason I continue to listen and buy her work, since I can easily find ways to spend twenty dollars elsewhere. My vocal coach (I'm training for musical theater and opera) loves her. She has a very natural way of switching between her chest and her head voice. Her middle voice shows excellent technique and demonstrates that it is possible to sing well in any genre. I find it somewhat close-minded when certain individuals declare other individuals of a homosexual bent merely because they like a certain sound. I believe it's possible for all people to appreciate good music, regardless of style. This is the mark of a well-rounded human being. If God had created us all to stay in our little boxes and listen to one kind of music, he wouldn't have created so many different kinds of creativity. Stop tearing other people down for their choices. You make them, too. God bless.

Ken, you just demonstarte to me more and more each post how big a moron you are. First off, you say Avril is filling a craving that 13-20 year olds have for sh**ty music. And yet, you like her. This doesn't make sense to me Ken. Either you're saying you like, as you say 'prepackaged' commercial pop music, in which case you're bragging of musical genius lacks any credibility, or you are saying you are in the 13-20 age group which would make you saying you have age/experience on me complete bullsh**. hahaha .... sure, she may not be the punkiest-punk or the a rocky-kind of rock music. Firstly, David, everyone is entitled their music taste, if you don't like avril because her music's tainted with 'pop-ness' in it, i think you should think about other ppl of different tastes that do not prefer rock music. All i see nowadays is so called 'rocker fans' being all hardcore and think their all badass becuase they're 'rockers'. Ppl with evanescence posters/items/CD's/generally fan-stuff are just as gay or as big of a p**** as someone with hilary duff fan-stuff. I see no difference in that part. Most rock bands are still 'boy bands' ... ARF ... except they play rockmusic... ever thought of it that way? Ppl sing what they want, and there is bound to be some population that hates their work or loves their work. Also, reviewers may give good reviews because of the general presentation of the artist's works, most of them are UNBIASED. Can't rate songs from whther they're in their favourite genre or not (eg. This isn't rock music, so i give it a 0/10). If they do rate that way, they are definately not suitable to be reviewers. Not that i mean they'll give all music praise, but they'll have their own way of differentiating good-bad music.... A rocker who hates 'pop' is just as shallow as a bubblegum-popper who hates rock. Anyway, enough bout that, i give avril's song a 6.

It's funny how Avril just wandered on TRL on day and said 'hey i'm maturer now' and everyone ate it up. Yeah, this album actually deals with HAVING a boyfriend and maybe Avril scribbled a few lyrics, that her actual lyricst was able to work around and make something a little more decent that the drivel that was Let Go. Just because she knows 3 bar chords and can blink down, then blink and look straight at the camera, does it mean she has suddenly accumulated a special talent. The song would obviously be better if you gave it to Britney Spears, she seems to p*ss all over Avril. For a song that has a boring unoriginal melody it relies on the equally boring clichèd lyrics to pull it through to the end. That's my favourite part, the end. This is a crap song. Complicated was a crap song. Let Go was a crap album (oh boy, I actually listened to it). Avril is a crap artist. its a good concept. n one that i firmly believe in, howeva the lyrics are poorly written. i guess cuz she tries to appear to a lower age of kids n not high schoolers. i just think she could have done a lot better cuz its a wonderful topic. sry if i pi**ed off any of her die-hard fans. im not agianst avril, im just giving an honest opinion.

I loved Avril in the Complicated to I'm With You era, but then I hated her and I don't know why. I thought she was fake, her songs sucked and she was just bad. Then this song caught me totally off-guard. I fell IN LOVE with the chorus, it's so catchy but not the type of catchy that drives you crazy in your head- It makes me feel the anger she's feeling and I feel like singing it all day lol! Great song with a good message, and I like her vocals more on this album, too. Mabye I will buy her next album...

I liked this song because it has a really catchy tune and like i had it stuck in my head for like a week! I dont like it because Avril tends to write a lot of kinda the same sounding stuff. Personally i really dont like her all that much but when i heard the song i intatly loved it.
