I think they missed the point of the song. Talk Talk got it right back in 1984 and it's a shame that someone had to package it. Especially a horrible band like No Doubt.

if your calling No Doubt sellouts i would call you something immensely horrible but 'Song comments and reviews with inappropriate language will be removed' according to that i can-not.
They've been working their butts off for almost 18 yrs now, dedicating their lives to the band and only to the band. I've been into No Doubt for the past 7 years and sure they've weaved in and out of all sorts of music as did other GREAT BANDS IE: RADIOHEAD!!! the only reason they became phenominal pop icons was beacuase of the 'catchy poppy dance tunes' people labeled their songs as .. with absolutely no thought in their head that these songs (off the rock steady album) were completely inspired by jamaican dancehall and completely written on their own. Find me one song 'corporate pop princess' such as BRITNEY SPEARS or BEYONCE EVER wrote on their own. THEY PAY PEOPLE TO WRITE THEIR SONGS THEN THEY LIP SINC THEM INTO THEIR LIL MICS AND STRUT THEIR FAKE BODIES UP AND DOWN THE STAGES!!! So once again screw YOU ALL who have the nerve to call no doubt sellouts, then after you've done that take your stupid britney blasting headphones or linkin park or whatever your listening to off your ears and go see some no doubt shows from possibly their last tour ever.

wow, that;s weird. It's cool/weird to know that a song I wrote in my bedroom in Texas gets the attention of someone in Australia. I appreciate the response.

I already reviewed this song ages ago and i'm still obsessed with no doubt, but in response to bv and wanda; great song. i wasn't expecting much but i ended up liking it a lot, of what i heard. i think that if i u had a cd out and i had money, and i didn't live in australia where i probably couldn't get it, i'd buy it. so good work

Hey, my band Wanda has a song on the internet, and we need an opinion. Anyone who has time, please visit my site www.wanda-band.com and click on the link to listen to our song, and then let me know what to think. I'm the lead singer/guitarist/and songwriter, and need an opinion. Thank You

I'd have to say GOOD song. Only No Doubt song I've enjoyed listening to, but the singer is one of the better female vocalists of our era. Thanks for an enjoyable 3 minutes 46 seconds.

Oh yeah, and Gwen, would you also kick these other s***s in the face for me? it's not that i'm getting tired of them, but they don't belong on earth, they more belong on the face of hell. they are the following: me, my momma, my dad, my grandfather Bitc*er Nobrain, my other grandfather Oldman Pieceofshi*, my grandmother Fuc*ker Andfuc*spussies, and my other grandmother Bigold Fa*. Oh and also kick my dead-and-in-hell cousin and his shi*ty dead-and-in-hell friends. But most important of all, kick me. Take that back, don't JUST kick me, kill me, so I can't write any more shi*ty reviews for a song and think I'm special when I'm not. Then you can go with the other s***s Chritina & Britney. And if you don't kill me, I'll change my mind about you and no doubt and say you suck. P.S. I gave this song a 0 because you haven't killed me yet.

It's a cool song with a cool video. I like Gwen Stefani because she actually has talent, and isn't fake, or afraid to be herself... and she's NOT a s*** :)

I hate this song. No Doubt messed it up. The 80's rule! Talk Talk rules! Screw the 90's and 2000's, cuz the 80s are the gnarliest! All 80's music is CLASSIC and should NOT be remade, ever! I could go on and on about how bad this song is, but Im getting my mullet feathered today.

I've heard this song over and over, and I'm still not sick of it yet. That's a good song. It may be a remake, but No Doubt did a fantastic job, as they usually do. Those who don't like it, 'Don't Speak!!!'

I have this best friend named Natalie who used to be neighbors with Hilary Duff when they were just little kids back in Texas. Hilary wasn't famous or anything but Natalie and her were the best of friends. Then, Natalie moved to Massachusetts, where I met her. Hilary and Natalie have stayed in touch since the move. They're still great friends. A few weeks ago, Natalie got a call from Hilary. Hilary's said that she's pregnant! Her and Frankie Muniz had sex at this crazy party, just to be wild and spontaneous! now, this 16 year old star is pregnant! Natalie couldn't believe it! I'm shocked too since I'm a big fan of Hilary Duff. Hilary plans on abortion, but Natalie also said she might have the baby and marry Frankie so the baby can have a real family. NOW, ISN'T THAT SWEET?!

I listen to all types of music, you name it I listen to it. I found this site by accident and decided to write a review due in part to most of the sophomoric commentary placed on the site. Everyone is entitled to an opinion; it doesn't make you right or wrong, hence the word opinion. 'It's My Life' is a very clever and intelligent remake of Talk Talk's 'It's My Life' not Roxy Music as mentioned before. It is the uttermost compliment an artist can bestow upon another artist to creatively remake their song. No Doubt did an excellent job and this is just the opinion of someone growing up on Marvin Gaye, Earth Wind & Fire, Otis Redding, the Beatles, and anything you can imagine in the 80's including the inception of Rap music. Keep listening and voicing your opinions. Talk Talk's version can be downloaded at Kazaa.

I kepe hearing this song and that it's a remake. I've never heard the original so I did a search to find out who did it. That's how I wound up here. Honestly, this cover annoys the hell out of me and it does sound very strained as someone else said.
I generally like No Doubt and respect them as artists, and while there's a lot of even worse music out there I just don't know about this song.
Listening to the original, I like it much better. Maybe it's just better suited for his life, or maybe there's just less synth crap clogging it up. I like the genuined 80's feel much better.
Sorry ND.

I feel kinda silly posting on a page with so many flames on it, but I'm going to anyways.
I've always been a big fan of the original (which WAS by talk talk by the way :-P), and I honestly think that no doubt's robotic, fuzz version of this song at least is in the same league as the original. I love what they did with guitars in the chorus. Obviously it isn't exactly the same as the original, and the singing style is very different, but not necessary worse. Overall, it is a very faithful cover however. It's nice to hear this on the radio again :-D. No Doubt's version isn't at all a disgrace to the original. You can tell that this band loves New Wave, and I'm sure that they didn't mean to 'exploit' or 'butcher' this song in any way. And for the record, this was recorded as a bonus track for No Doubt's compilation CD, so it's not like it's a 'real' single. This is No Doubt's first cover released as a single. Also... britney spears has already done a cover of I love rock and roll (#59) :-P. Never underestimate pop music.
The video... well, I'll admit is has almost nothing to do with the song, but I'm a sucker for film noir so I liked it :-P.

I've never heard of this song before until No doubt did it over. The original version is awesome but that was released in the 80's. What's wrong with putting a modern face lift to a song. As long as they don't butcher them of coarse. I think they've outdone themselves with this song and I love it. It's gets my mojo going!

Is there anybody else out there who has listened to Talk Talk's original hundreds and hundreds of times? I have and I ain't a child of the 80s (sadly). This song brought me through rough times in high school back in Germany's early 90s. That was when I first heard the song (probably played more frequently in Europe anyway). Kinda like a lifesaver. As someone who is stuck in the 80s and doesn't really listen to what's one the radio these days, I was pleasantly surprised to hear the familiar tunes. I agree with those who think that the No Doubt version doesn't beat the original, but I give Gwen & Co credit for picking a Talk Talk song to cover. I am sure insiders know that INXS and DeMo songs were also considered!! I personally like the use of guitars, is anybody paying attention to the bass? Anyway, this is taking me way back. Hopefully, this song will make people dust of their Talk Talk records/CDs and play them again.

A remake that just didn't need to be. The music is quite faithful to the original, leaving Stefani's voice to stand out. She does a decent job, but anyone who grew up with the original Talk Talk version will just shudder. All in all, it seems they're just cashing in on a great, but little-heard, 80's song.

When I first heard this song a piece of me died. Was this simply a nightmare, one of my greatest fears being expressed? Once perfection is reached, like it was in the original Mark Hollis version of It's My Life, there is no valid reason to remake a song. The superficial music video, which has nothing to do with the original spirit of the song (nature & animal life) added to my resentment of the music of today. -Ted

Crummy remake. Why is it all these groups insist on butchering good songs from the past. The Ataris with Boys of Summer didn't even add anything original, sounds like the old version only wussier. Are the handlers of these people just out of original song ideas that they have to pick a somewhat obscure song from 20 years ago and remake it? I honestly they believe that the bulk of their fans won't even know it is a remake until they have bought the CD. What is next? Justin gonna cover 'Turning Japanese' or maybe Brittany gonna go 'I love rock and roll'? I admit No Doubt has more talent than most of these acts but still... Remakes are good b-sides and tribute pieces, not your bread and butter.

Hey Josephine
Respectfully, No Doubt did a great job re-making this song however, give respect to the author Mark Hollis.
No Doubt's version may sound better becasue of its advanced engineering in the recording studio.
No Doubt's version may also sound better becasue of advancements of the synthesizer and other
instuments used in this remake. Take away the fancy synth and background sweetners and what do you have? Ms. Stefani hitting bascially the same notes. Please come up with a better review and something constructive to this board -and while your at it - try the hairspray and shoulder pads. Same goes for you Amber - Rather than calling Mark Hollis' work 'crap' maybe you can offer us some insight on your 'crap' review.

One of the few good remakes of an eighties classic. No Doubt uses just enough discretion to personalize the song while remaining true to the original. This remake allows me to remember 1984 instead of forcing me think of how another great eighties tune has been disgraced by a contemporary artist.

I dont understand why so many people are giving this song a bad review. First of all, No Doubt is not trying to change people's opinions about the song- if you liked it better by Talk Talk (which is also a gr8 group) that is fine. No Doubt is just trying to pay homage to a group that has influenced their style, life, and career over the past two decades. And obviously this cover song is not going to be sung exactly the same as Talk Talk did it because each group has a different style and different feel to bring to a song. I strongly believe that No Doubt did a magnificent job on this song. What better way is there to say 'Thank You!' to a group that has influence your career than to sing/remake one of their songs with your own style and talent. That is the whole point to No Doubt, they are not your typical group, they are true 'artists' and they are damn good at it. BEAUTIFUL!

OMG - I have to give this song a 10...seeing as though the more I hear it & can't stop listening to it, it's becoming one of my favourite songs of all time. This song is fascinatingly (if that's even a word) addictive. I can't describe it. When I hear it I have to dim all the lights in my room & just close my eyes, imagining I'm flying over an ocean under moonlight. Some very pretty images come into my mind when I hear that song.
Absolutely love it. Can't wait to get the CD.

I couldn't understand the coincidences of this song being played on the radio so much recently. I thought why are they playing this old song so often. To listen to it, it is a perfectly constructed song from the '80's.
Just listen to those synths and beats :-) I like it, it has got magic. Took a Google search to bring me here and find out that it is performed by No Doubt. Good song, suits a female vocalist very well.

As fan of Talk Talk, I felt at first that 'No Doubt' did this song no Justice. If you listen to the original version sung by frontman Mark Hollis (Talk Talk)you will understand the message conveyed. Respectfully I will say that No Doubt did a great job at modernizing this classic however, did nothing to break its 'mold'. This unique song still remains a better song as the original.

This is an Awsome song, I don't think some of the kids today know what good music is. This is a great remake, they need to bring back some of the old 80's songs. It was the last time music had emotion in it.
Thanks, Talk Talk and No Doubt

This is by far one of the best songs she's ever sung. I can't stop thinking about it. Even though this is a re-make of an 80's song, she did an awesome job singing it.

What!!!! How can some people say this is the best No Doubt song they've heard? It sounds like such a forced effort. Like no beginning or end. They sound bored and want to make a buck. Ilove ND, but this song is terrible. The original is much much better

This song is brilliant and so are no doubt. I listened to it over and over. I was then intruiged about how the original sounded. I listened to it and i was quite bored indeed. I don't think they ruined the original at.

This song actually is a damn good cover. I actually think it's one of No Doubts better moments. And it's so damn catchy when Gwen sings the chorus.

I enjoyed this No Doubt version of this song. This coming from a fan of Talk Talk. I was pleasantly surprised to hear this on VH1 this morning. They brought out the funky tempo of the base line, and changed the drumming during the chorus..

I am rating it average because it is average. It is okay but not great or brilliant. Much rather listen to the orignial than a cheap cover of a true brilliant song.

Whoever produced this did a great job of bringing that bass line out and cleaning it up in general. Screw anyone who thinks that they did anything but better for this song.

It's the original with a whole bunch of distortion, and a girl whining instead of the usual guy singing. Terrible. Talk Talk's song was one of the best from the 80's, and No Doubt have gone and turned it into a blatant attempt to get more air time on the radio without having to write a song.

I too love the original. It's funny, My first download from the Apple Itunes sight was last night, 'It's my life' by TalkTalk, my favorite song from the 80's. I come down stairs and Gwen's singing it (first time I'd seen her version), I freaked. She does it sooo good. She is a CLASS ACT. She's simply the best artist out there right now. She's also a genius from what I hear.

There are many remakes out there, but No Doubt hit the Nail on the head with 'It's my Life'. I grew up on the 80's and really miss the great music. Today's seen is so commercialized. I remember when New Wave fashions were made from at home and not sold at 'Hot Topics'.

Not sure what to make of this. I LOVE the original by Talk Talk (song and the video) -- but not jazzed that someone remade it as the song to me will always be by Talk Talk. No Doubt rocks but have to know the original to appreciate any note of their version. C'est la vie.
