The only reason I'm giving this a 9 is because it isn't original. If it was, I'd give it a 10. This is brilliant. Limp Bizkit took a song that sucked and made it into a classic. They were true to the original but made it current.

i thought it was a good twist to the song. certainly not better than the who's, but definately good. it was totally ruined by saying f***ING 'discover' over and over again. it sounds ok but that makes it suck.

I have never understood the need for bands to take old songs and redo them and just make miniscule changes. I can understand if you are just starting out as a musician and haven't written nothing yourself. But once you have written your own material, there is no point to redoing a classic. Tribute and cover bands are a dime a dozen. Anyone can play bass guitar and/or drums. Those two instruments are not hard. 11 years ago I borrowed a friends bass guitar and amp and a bass guitar book and taught myself how to play bass guitar in a matter of hours. And drums: I've always had a natural sense of rhythm. Where I get it from, I don't know.
Anyway, I'm off my soapbox.
Write me back with your comments if you want.

I am a little younger than the members of the 'Who generation' that have written such scathing reviews of this cover, but I am familiar with the original (Just having listened to both versions on CD). I have to say that while I tend to dispise covers (it displays a lack of writing talent), I think that the Limp Bizkit cover of this song has a hard vocal and instrument edge that better fits the lyrics. It flows better and (in my opinion) is much more pleasant to listen to.

It's nearly identical to the original from The Who, except the tampering with the lyrics. No added value whatsoever. The curious thing is that I didn't even know this was a song by the Who until I recently heard the original. There went my illusion that these guys had talent...

The Who has Talent, Limp Bizkit doesn't.
I can't believe Fred is self rightous enough to f***ing cover that song and NOT credit Pete. LIMP BIZKIT DOESN'T HAVE THE TALENT TO COME UP WITH A SONG LIKE BEHIND BLUE EYES.
And then he has the BALLS to remove the 'if my fist clenches, crack it open' part and he has the f***ing ego to write more goddamn lyrics into the song and even say the god damn band name in there. 'Discover L-I-M-P, Say it.' f***ing asshole. And then to stroke his ego even more he has himself kissing Catbi*** Halle Berrie. My god it pi**es me off.
First Faith by George Michael(which kinda sucks either way), then Welcome Home Sanatarium by Metallica now THIS?
GOD DAMMIT!!!
Real musical geniouses like Dimebag Darrell get shot and killed and these f***ing hacks like FRED DURST get to live and ruin legendary songs? Where is the f***ing balence?
God damn I wanna kick the sh** out of Fred Durst, and I could do it too.

This version is halfway decent, but turning a classic song into one that is merely listenable is nothing to get exited about. Fred Durst's voice is sorely lacking here. As a side note, reading some of the comments on here (limp bizkit roolz 4eva) makes me ashamed to represent today's youth. Douchbags. 3/10

Yeah, well, if you like his version, you should hear the ORIGINAL. Pete Townshend of the British Invasion band the Who wrote it and released it with Roger Daltry as lead singer on the Who's Next album in 1971.

Another classic butchered by the tone-deaf morons of today's music. Even comparing the Who to Limp Bizkit proves that you don't value substance.
Too old? I'm 19 years. I'm just not brain-dead enough to like whatever is sh*t out by the flavor of the month. Do you even know what this song was about?
Fred Durst has the maturity of a 8 year old. Unfortunately has hasn't quite reached the intelligence of one yet. Not to mention he lacks any sort of uniqueness or talent whatsoever. When I heard this song come on the radio I immediately stopped the car and checked to see if I had run over any sickly cats... to my relief I'd mistaken Dursts gravely yet nasally whine as an animal in its death throes. Why do so many singers today sound like they're whining?
Roger Daltery has a powerful and emotive voice. Pete Townshend wrote songs that mean something. Not to mention Pete, John Entwistle and Keith Moon could all play their instruments with tremendous skill; sadly, a rarity nowadays.
There's great music to be had. Venture outside the top ten charts and look around a bit. To each his own in music, I suppose, but there was a time when music was special. It meant something. Hopefully that time will return to us.

The pathetic attempt of sounding good together went terribly terribly WRONG. I cant belive some of these comments. If you don't like Limp Bizkit's version THAT's because you most likely 60 yrs old and your ears hurt. Bizkit sounds way better than the original. I just heard this version and it's OK.The changing of the
song does kinda suck, but the stuff they took out was hard to duplicate especially the acoustic picking in the intro you'd have to have a rather large modicum of ability to do that. When a song gets covered who expects it to be better than the original? It does not happen very often. This version pays homage to the song and The Who so take it for what it is.
I assume the people familar with this song know little about Bizkit and vice versa.Of note those who like the lyrics should take the 17 yr old kids advice and buy some Who stuff, because Townshend did write some of the best stuff ever, better lyrics than most 'Classic' rock bands.I'd try Quadrophenia as well.

The original song is a classic, and was butchered by one of the worst bands I've ever heard. They've survived because of the horrible ignorance of taste in today's youth and youngish people.

Review 63 pretty much says it all. But really, it sucks because LB's version lacks any soul or feeling - that and he's not a very good singer.
People who like this version are either ignorant of the original, or are afraid to admit anything that was recorded before they were born could possibly be better.

oh for god's sake??? aside from the obvious reservations anyone with a brain should have about limp bizkit being about as alternative as my gran and about as political as george bush (thats NOT a compliment), technically, theyve made a crap job of the cover. they have a) neither gone for the raw, edgey sound of the original nor b) gone for an acoustic performance. instead it kinda floats between and is neither here nor there throughout. but the biggest tradgedy is that they seem to have completely cut out the middle 8 of the song, which is pretty much the best part of the original, with an amazing guitar riff and the best lyrical section of the song with some cracking vocal harmonies.
i know i really hate limp bizkit and the like, and feel permenantly ashamed of not the lack of taste but rather the lack of musical knowledge and education that most fans of this kinda stuff display.... but put that aside and just listen to both versions of the song. if you think that the limp bizkit version is musically better, youre just plain wrong. its not a matter of opinion, its a technical question. ask a musician. and as its a cover, it certainly lacks any of the passion and drive of the original.

Mmmm...In responce to review 62 wit all the sh** bout Bush: America's teens hate the current ass-suckin president cuz he ruined our economy, went to war on Iraq for no reason except for the suspicion of WMD. Which, by the way, were not found.
I don't see any beliefs in my generation, any convictions, our youth are wimps, mamas boys who'd be lucky to get a parking ticket overturned.
Now that's the biggest sh**load of crap I've heard in a long time. You wanna know what I did two days ago? I went to a ModelUN to resolve WORLD problems like Global Climate Change, Child Labor, Economic Sanctions, Infectious Diseases, and Weapons Of Mass Destruction. There were about 3000 teenagers from across the US there, and you tell me that our generation doesn't care? Most of the people in my class are planning on going into either the military or politics, and personally, I am planning on joining the Peace Corps. So please, at least say that the people your age that you KNOW are lazy; don't accuse an entire generation based on observations of a few people. We aren't all lazy bums; just like our parents weren't all hippies. We aren't all tech freaks; just like our parents weren't all crackheads. Any sterotype that has to do with anything is misguided, and shouldn't be used. And no, I am not some 40-year old. I am 12; and proud of it. Because people your age are f***ing up our generation's reputation, kids five or six years younger than you (we really ARE part of your generation!) get no chance because all of you have ruined our oppurtunities. You should be apologizing, if you're going to make statements for your generation as a whole.

i'm befuddled by the change of lyrics. did Limp Bizkit think they could 'improve' a classic? were they intimidated? afraid to tackle a song that exposes their own work as the cliche-riddled tripe it is? or was the original simply too subtle for their fans -- accustomed, as they are, to being beaten vigorously about the head and shoulders by LB's concept 'deep' songwriting.
any way you look at it, a travesty.

Boy I sure like to see an artist transforming himself and writing songs from his heart now....too bad it's not from his heart, instead from Pete Townsend a true musical legend and before the dumb ass teenagers start suggesting i'm superannuated or whatnot,I'd like to shoot that argument down by revealing the fact that i'm 17 years old. I'll admit I hate the rock music of my generation, these bands rely on computer generated noise to sound good instead of making quality music by themselves and to actually write lyrics that mean something, they have to steal lyrics from the 70's. So may I be the first one to suggest that all fans of this diminutive remake of a classic, pick up a little cd called who's next by the who or steal it from kazaa, something my sorry generation seems so indifferent towards doing. You know this generation claims to have it tough, but i swear my generation is sooo stinkin lazy, too lazy to go out and find out the true facts about something, I find it astonishing that people in my school talk alot of sh** about Bush, i ask why do you hate Bush and they tell me to go listen to a NoFX cd, pathetic, utterly pathetic. I don't see any beliefs in my generation, any convictions, our youth are wimps, mamas boys who'd be lucky to get a parking ticket overturned.

I remember listening to this song when I was younger. The Who does it well, I will agree. And I love the new version as well. I think instead of downing either band or version of the song, we should all just appriecate it for it's beautiful lyrics. Who cares who is singing it, guys? The song's a masterpeice and I have both versions downloaded because I see past background music and all that and listen to the lyrics themselves. All this crazy bickering is really taking away from the beauty of the song its self.

That song is cool, doesn't matter if it is from another group, in general limp bizkit's lyrics 'mean something', not as blink 182, for example. In this song fred demonstrated he can sing an not only shout!
oh, and i read an opinion, very stupid opinion... hey, you say 'mature!', but the only inmature in here is you, you CANNOT tell how mature someone is just for the music he listens, come on, think a little if you can

To all you arrogant asses who wrote about how this that and blah blah, the original is better and 'limp bizkit sucs, i cant speel, blah blah'...
I have yet to hear any good arguments as to why it is. Take your heads out of your arses and grow up a little, will ya? Either that or stick to your elvis or britney spears or whatever and leave the world alone, it's bad enough as it is. You've got all that wonderful grey matter floating around in your intolerant, creatively sterile skulls and you don't even bother to use it for anything of any use to the world.
It isn't the best song I've heard, but it deserves recognition for what it is, not what you people want it to be, and what others think it should be. Mature.

The Who are legendary. Their music is true power, drama and glory. Their flame burns eternal along with the other revolutionary bands of their time, like the Beatles and The Rolling Stones. These bands changed the face of rock and roll. Bands of today, like Limp Biskit, owe EVERYTHING to them. Fred Durst would probably readily agree. Watch 'The Kids Are Alright', if you haven't ever seen it. 'Behind Blue Eyes' was written about 30 years ago. 30 years from now, it will still be getting radio airtime while Bizkit's lame version will be forgotten.

Not a bad cover version, but I agree the hard turn should have been left in. 'and if I swallow anything evil, stick your fingers down my throat..' is much more in step with the times than bizkit's limp version. Still, good try. Our band is going to cover this song, and we'll leave the turn in.

Crap, but then again what else could you expect from Limp Bizkit? I see a lot of people defending this song by saying that people should forget about the past and just accept music today for what it is (because resistance is futile). I'm all for progress, but that doesn't justify the predictable, generic bullsh** being produced by a lot (but thankfully not all) of bands and their labels. If this sort of music is what 'today's' people really want then the record sales are doing a pretty f***ing good job of hiding it (that despite all the marketing). Seriously though, look somewhere else for progress, you won't find any from Limp Bizkit.

A Great song...BUT!!!
The middle part of the ORIGINAL song is the crux of the song.
The whole point of the song is that there's this mellow 'blue-eyed' person
who is really violent, fu&*ed-up and tortured.
The middle (loud) part of the original turns the song on its head.
That Limp Bizkit replaced this with a 'soft-c***' drone comprising of
self-promotion is the biggest of disappointments.
For me, there is no better or worse. They are different songs.
The bottom line is....Pete Townshend wrote it, so MUCH MORE credit
needs to go to the original...Limp Bizkit ONLY interpreted it!

C'mon guys, it's commerce, but I just listened to the original and let's be honest here: it's old and it's (sorry for the fans) not really good compared to Bizkit's version.
It's got this really weird, nasal sound, the singer sings in this very freaky voice, and regularly makes weird pull outs (the first 'seems','hours' and 'only').
Any pro could tell you: that is NOT the way to use your voice to make it sound correct.
And then suddenly the tone completely changes, which ruines the song completely! And the end is just bad.
Nah, give me the Bizkit version...
But of course, I have to admit, to make a song like that you must be a pretty damn good artist :]

I just think its a really beautiful song to begin with because the lyrics express true human feelings. I mean if it is going to be re-recorded and covered by another band, like it has been, it needs to be done with respect, appreciation, and with regard to it's originality. I think Bizkit pulled it off quite well and didn't robb it of its originality but even included a small touch of their own. This version might appeal to more people than the other one but it doesnt make it any better or worse.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion which is why we'll never resolve such petty issues as these ....o which version is better so on and so forth. I mean this day and age u might find that more people prefer bizkits version rather than The Who's version It is definitely more passionate and expressive vocally, IMO!! We have adapted to a greater knowledge of music and sound as time has progressed into the 21st century so I mean perhaps on that scale Bizkits version is better instrumentally with better quality sound. Talant and skill wise well thats a natural thing so I can't be the judge. I do think that bizkit's version sounds better I mean most bands in the 60's and 70's didnt really revolutionize a new sound that would be comparable to everything we hear today. I'd say Zeppelin came the closest ...but all this digital audio editing and recording we have makes it hard to compare.

What a bunch of degenerate old farts(or young farts) you all need to get your bloody head out of the sand & move with the times or if you would not then at least try to show some appreciation for artists expressing their style of music(Limp Bizkit are at the top for this genre). Go & ask your Great Grandfathers what they thinks of the who & do some research of how many classic songs The Who 'murdered'. There seems to be a lot of people here who are not connisuers(ignore spelling) of music & they should p*** off & go listen to their The Who & watch their Charlie Chaplin movies. Goodbye for now

Excuse me whoever you people are, but I don't see how you have the right to judge an artist like Fred Durst who is extremely successful. When you are as successful as he is as a singer and writer then comment but until that time I suggest you give it a rest! I think (and I am old enough to remember The Who's version), that in all cases the original is better! I mean they wrote it! But if you can sing or make as good a go of it as Fred Durst has then I take my hat off to you! I give it a 9!

Poor doesnt begin to describe the appaling level of this song, not enough is the unmitigated cheek a band like limp biskit has to choose a song by a legendary band like The Who, they choose a classic song and commit musical murder. The success of this song just typifies the stupidity and ignorance of people, I can safely assume 90% of biskit fans will think this song is a limp biskit original.
Limp Biskits own songs are bad enough, dont take a great song and sh*t on it again please fred.
Also, Roger Daltry's voice is 10 times better than freddies will ever be, and where the hell is the great Pete Townshend guitar part?
