lol, ok. First of all, forget about Kelly for now. I think it is SO funny how you people really think that people care about your critiques! Saying stuff about how poorly written the song was, and how it has no depth, and yaddda ya, bladdy blah. Who CARES! These days, rarely any song out there has any depth. People are in it to win it! Make same cha-ching! I think (not that it matters to kelly or anyone else), that Kelly Clarkson has a very powerful, beautiful voice. God has blessed her to able to bless the world with her vocal talents. So wether you think the words were yucky, or wether you think her voice sucks, it doesn't matter! I wish there was a higher rating then 10 but then again there are no numbers that can compete with this song, I want to be on American Idol and if I get on it this is the song I'll sing. Your probably thinking 'Oh please this song is full of it and your probably a bad singer anyway.' This meaningful song makes a world of a difference in my life and in others as well. I think that the American idle contest has produced just what they should have expected to produce, a generic ballad with no musical quality or originality. Kelly has a nice voice but the competition should have been for a Musician, someone who can sing and write and play music. This is to all the people bashing Kelly Clarkson - GIVE IT A REST! I have been in music for many years and have never had the good fortune as to the break she has gotten. Easily among the very worst hit songs ever to pollute the
airwaves. Lousy lyrics combined with by-the-numbers
generic Power Ballad music make this an excruciating lump
of musical saccharine to experience. Kelly Clarkson's

complete clone of Mariah Carey's (without the multi-
octave birdcall effects), from breathy pseudo-emotional

I agree with the majority...the 1st and 2nd critics seem to agree she has a spine tingling voice. (That literally made my hairs stand as she sang!) Yet you think the lyrics suck? It was her FIRST release...and I am sure that time was a factor. Showing off that she won the Idol contest? Well hell, after all that hard work and not really imagining that she WOULD really win...she has all the bragging rights she needs! Allright, a great intro to the song (the first 30 seconds) and a great voice (Clarkson's) are not nearly enough to save this song. If you take the song as it is, it's essentially a stock pop ballad with a booming closing chorus. It also seems to be bound to be the most overplayed song of the year, and will become a staple prom theme come next spring. There surely is another song out there that will do Clarkson's incredible talents justice; unfortunately it's not this one.

Kelly Clarkson. What can I say about her? Is she a real music artist or is she just someone promoting American Idols? Well, she defiently does have the talent to be a singer. Unfortunetly though, people think less and less of her when they hear this song. Audibly horrible. The lyrics are a disaster. The song has now flow whatsoever. But then again, you have Kelly Clarkson's beautiful voice singing to this 'song'. She is amazing when it comes to singing, that is for sure. But, I'm not sure I would listen to this one over and over again. Simply, because the song is written so poorly, that Ms. Clarkson's talent goes unoticed, and she remains as an ameture singer promoting American Idol.

YOU COULD FEEL THIS GIRL'S HEART IN HER WORDS. SHE MAY NOT HAVE WRITTEN IT, BUT SHE LIVED IT. THIS YOUNG GIRL HAD A DREAM AND TOOK THE INITIATIVE TO MAKE THAT DREAM COME TRUE. Okay, how many ways can I describe horrible? Well, I could consult Webster's Dictionary or I could just say Kelly Clarkson's 'A Moment Like This' and be equally satisfying.
What could possibly be wrong with this horrendous atrocity posing as a song? Just about everything. First of all, musically it sounds like a deep song, so one expects the song to delve deep into the pits of whatever subject it talks about, in this case love. However, we only get a smattering of lyrics that lightly touch upon the subject and leave the listener wanting more, and not in the good sense. Plus, lyrically it sounds like Clarkson is bragging that she won 'American Idol'- I mean, how else can I explain a chorus that tells me 'Some people wait a lifetime/For a moment like this'? Furthermore, Clarkson's voice, though exceptional, is very passionless, as she sounds like she'd rather be doing the laundry than singing the song. I can't blame her: how can she put her heart into something that isn't hers? Music is supposed to act as a release not just for the listener but for the musician as well, since it can express emotions that may not be easily 'expressable' otherwise (like love), and how can the song be a release if it isn't coming from Clarkson? This song is very commercial, designed only to sell, and epitomizes everything 'American Idol' was: a greedy cash grab by a seedy, pathetic corporate record head (RCA's Randy Jackson), playing on Top 40 radio's insatiable lust for cheeky pop songs and giving them one. Last year, the record industry was shifting to real art and 'real' music, shoving 'fake' music like this out of the window and maybe making record companies realize that greedy money grabs don't work. Instead, we get 'American Idol', a show that sickened me more than 'Survivor' does. It's times like these that make me wish Michelle Branch and her fellow 'real' musicians had more airtime.
Simply put, the recording industry has been destroying the art in music for the last fifty years. It's about time somebody stopped them. They're complaining about a sales slump? Why not give us true art for a change, exactly what music (except from a brave few like Branch) used to be.
