Well well! just happened to read Review#68 and i guess he/she maybe in a state of confusion or really doesn't have the taste for music.yes its true that this song really belongs to Cyndi but if she doesn't have any prob. in Celine singing her song in a newer version, what's ur problem then? i hope that u will grow up into a matured person. And as 4 Celine, a thumbs-up 4 u, sweet angel.Just simply can't resist ur voice and definitely want more music from u.

This is horrible! The song has always belonged to Cyndi Lauper! Celine was good in the early to mid nineties. Mainly when she sang in French. She has become a mockery of herself. Celine, Chantez-vous en français seulement!

I Tink Celine's version is great. She is a superb singer, but I can't give it a ten because it is a cover of a cover. Roy Orbison and Cindy Lauper did the song more justice by adding more emotion and depth, but Celine is just a more powerful singer and that is to be appluaded. There is one last comment I need to make. For those who think the song shouldn't be associated with car commercials, I disagree. The whole point of television advertising is to make you recall the product or service so that you will consider purchasing the product in the future. So many people have dubbed this song as the 'Car ad song' that it is obvious it has worked as a promotional gimic and has aided the consumer in recall of the product.

It's my belief that only Celine's voice could've sang 'I Drove All Night' so beautifully. She has an amazing voice and she put an enormous amount of effort into that song. It is one of my favorites and it grew on me. It's a beautiful piece and I'm very glad Celine sang it. I first heard Celine sing when I was just around the age of ten. I'm now 16 and still a fan of her work.

Nothing against Celine - she is fine, she can sound incredible - I have nothing against the woman like some on this list
BUT
She is no Cyndi Lauper. Cyndi's I Drove All Night is sublime - full of playfulness, sexiness, real emotion, longing and desire. Listening to Cyndi's version you are drawn in as much by Cyndi's amazing (and idiosyncratic) vocals as her true, raw heartfelt emotional plea. Celine's version is sung beautifully and very loud, but ultimately is emotionally empty. Celine sounds great, but she doesn't inhabit the song the way Cyndi does.
And the emotional connection that Celine lacks, in my opinion, is what separates a great technical singer like Celine, from a true artist like Cyndi Lauper.

I drove all night is one of the best songs I have heard all my life. Extravagant. I thought that I drove all night was awesome. I have always loved Celine Dion. She is better than any of you who posted sh**ty stuff about her. Shes absolutely brilliant. How does a voice like hers come out of a woman who probably weighs 125 pounds. It takes pure talent to sing the way she does. So stop dogging her, because you all are nothing but jealous about her ability to pull of any song she sings. Plus half of you are probably about 15 years old who havent even lived yet. So grow up then come back and post a review, and this time talk about something you know something about.

Celine is talented and produced ANOTHER hit with I Drove All Night. This song may not be for everybody, but is for the majority of people who bought the CD and made I Drove All Night into a music chart-hitting success. Good song, great voice. Celine is an outstanding singer. Unfortunately, there are a few jealous people who disagree, but who cares? Celine will continue to crank out hit songs since Americans appreciate her talent.

Celine did a 'decent' job on 'I Drove All Night'. After hearing Lauper's version, I think Celine should have tried to keep it more original - instead of adding a be-boppy beat. It does not compare to Cyndi Lauper's 4-octive voice. In return, Cyndi Lauper has covered a classic song in which Celine Dion coverd - 'At Last'. Listen to both versions and you can hear two great voices, but my bet is on Lauper.

I'll have to fly in the face of the previous reviewer and say that it's much better than the Lauper rendition.
I don't think Lauper's voice or style nearly suited it as evidenced by (the very common 80's practice of) covering vocals with synth to hide 'issues'.
Having spent eight years regularly making the drive as described for a long-distance relationship to see a boyfriend, later fiance, later husband - I personally much more closely relate to the emotion expressed by Dion.
As far as the 'car commercial' debate - sigh. I run a production company, and we regularly do postpro on TV spots - it's not about the song in its entirety. Heck, Tub Thumping was regularly used! Video is 60% aboutthe audio backing it. Try watching your favorite movie with the volume down. Any given scene has music that evokes an emotion - if it's done well - the directors' desired emotion in the majority of people. The snippets chosen do that well. Awesomely well produced commercials. It's easy sitting in your 'comfychair' to not realize what goes into that production.

By: Representin' My Diva: Céline Dion
rating: 10 (out of 10)
Even though, at first listen, i did not much care for this song due to a) orchestration, b) a slight crack (which I am certain is not a TRUE crack as in studios there are people who work on avoiding such errors), and c) the fact that it's yet another cover by Céline Dion, I would now like to state that this song definitely 'grows' on a person, and that it now ranks up there with the others I have grown to love; allow me to explain why.
In my opinion, on a musical level, I consider this a rather risky feat to attempt: re-recording a song which has already become a classic by two legendary artists: Roy Orbison and Cindy Lauper, and then, as it's been said by others, 'bam! she (her team of producers and other musicians; she actually does quite little other than sing, which, might I add, she can do better than any other woman on the face of this small earth of ours) takes it up a notch' by colouring it all with an infectious groove, and, as others have pointed out, sucking all traces of emotion right out of it (which was scarcely present in Lauper's renditions, might I add). At this point, Céline and her team decide to release it as the first single to her rather smooth yet commercially driven offering, ONE HEART.
I will close this argument by stating that the emotionless performance was intended: how many 'dance' artists do you know actually aim and strive to make their fans cry and get goosebumbs? None. And I don't think that this was Céline's aim either; I DROVE ALL NIGHT is all about Vegas-style cabaret performances, lighing, stage, choreography, Chrysler's ad campaign (way tacky, yet way lucrative and, sadly, it totally works, and brilliantly!), and record sales. That's about it. This is not a song about a sinking ship.
Now, with regards to the video, I happen to think that it's fine (totally boring, however), but the song is already so tacky and predictable, do you think that it really needed to be staged and told, frame by frame, in a video where she would be shot driving various Chrysler models down endless roadways, only to be shown, during the choruses, kissing and hugging the person for whom this track was intended (be it René or René-Charles or even myself)? All I can say is that she truly looks like the diva that she is in this video with her great look, moves, and general presence.
Now, I am not taking a fit, nor am I lashing out at total strangers who make negative comments about Céline's music and videos: this is quite legitimate behaviour, as far as I am concerned. Now what I will criticize are the people who have posted very crude and pointless attacks pertaining to Céline's poor singing abilities (150 million albums worldwide? come on!) and aging husband (yes, but he's hers and not ours, and we will all reach his age someday). These types of poeple are, clearly, people who are either a) envious, b) bored, c) morons, d) all of the above ('d' being the applicable scenario in most cases, I am assuming).
Even though some people may claim that Québec's best-kept secret, Céline Dion, has sold her soul to the U.S. of A., I would like to think that she remains true to herself and to her fans in what she does and represents. And hell: even if she does not, at least I can say that she has the most remarkable vocal talent I have ever come across in all of my years of listening to music (even though many of her songs totally suck; she can still sing them better than any other woman could even dream of singing them).
So, with that, I shall end this long rant of mine and continue my crusade to change the world.

Her voice is the strongest and that is what people want . they want to hear those glass-breaking notes and not the same old sh**ty rock songs that get played over and over again. No matter what she sings wether it is remake or not celine pulls out all the stops!!!!!!!!!!! This song has become a classic now, and not in 1989. Celine makes anything into a platinum classic!

The original song is an unforgettable classic. I'm just annoyed that celine as usual goes and rips it off and now the only version of that song being played these days is hers. Please Celine move on!! Sure, my heart will go on was impressive where you showed off your vocals but now the same dragged out notes without any feeling to carry them through, that is really becoming so tiring and too predictable.

I have to agree with the person who said, 'when Cyndi Lauper did this, at least she put some EMOTION into it, even though her voice isn't as nice as Celine's.' All you people that think this is a new song need to go out and find Cyndi's version from the 1989.
Like most of Celine's remakes (of which she has MANY...she must hold the record for number of remakes), this is just another 'belt it out as strong as you can and make sure to get the words right' song.

I think this song is a good one - i think all these people that wrote REALLY bad things about Celine are really mean and freaky! i mean, i thought this was a review of Celine's SONG, not her personal life! And what are you gonna do when you get old? And she's not that old anyway, just a normal woman like everyone else. I haven't heard the other version of the song, but I have to admit Celine sings more like trying to show off how good her voice is than sing it from the bottom of her heart and mean what she says. Also the video is sort of boring coz all she does is just stand there in black clothes. But otherwise its a good dance mix. And the melody is nice and passionate, except Celine doesnt sing it very passionately really. But its a good song, so i give 6.

Why not just try to appreciate the work of a legend. Most of you who criticise can't even hit half her notes... i know i can't but you must admit, i can....the lady can sing and she did an exceptional job with 'idrove all night' so stop hatin' and show some love.
and 'Easter Bunny', no need to get personal, if you have issues, take them out on those who cause you to have them, not on CELINE, i doubt she'll read this anyway!

Celine, you're over. You're francophone voice just gets on everyone's nerves now. I Drove all night was just a poorly put together song that was an ATTEMPT to get you back on track. First and foremost, crap lyrics, sound sucks, and you're getting old. Is all that stress of a no good husband getting to you because i swear i heard you're voice crack in this song about 4 times. please, retire soon, because you're songs just suck. You're old, we liked you for Titanic, but then, well you went down hill. Having a baby killed your career, and you dont have a huge fan web anymore because they've all died. Have fun struggling, I'll see you on the streets soon down in Montreal because that husband of yours is going to gamble all your money away, and you just cant bring in the paycheck anymore because its getting hugely reduced every time, because everyones sick of your trynannical presence.

I DROVE ALL NIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!!! This song is amazing.I thought that Celine was losing her appeal last year when she released the terrible 'A New Day Has Come' album, but she has returned to grace with thi track alone...noot to mention how superb the whole album is!

Ok...I hate Celine...but this song is excellent.I'm a huge fan of techno/dance music, and this song fits in perfectly alongside my Daddy Dj and Iio cd's.Her voice isn't as flashy on her other songs, which is a relief.I love the way she breathes new life into this classic.Celine, you are the most annoying singer ever, but I have to give you credit for this one.Keep doing dance music,it suits you well.

Celine, you go woman. This is one of the best songs she is singing. It is an excellent remix and with the nice beat to it, that makes it even more beautiful! She has the nicest voice and the way she performs is fantastic!Keep it up. We love your music! You are great!!

Dance music has been crying out for Celine Dion to embrace it. And embrace it she does!! While she dabbled on her last album into the world of dance with 'Sorry For Love', Celine goes full steam ahead with a rendition of the Roy Orbison track, pouring 100% emotion into her vocals. The production sounds not unlike UK hitmakers METRO (Cher, Kylie Minogue, Enrique Iglesius), who have apparently contributed songs for Celine's upcoming album 'One Heart'. Hopfully this track is a sign of what's to come for the voice that is Celine Dion!!! Excellent!!!

I think Celine Dion has made a really good progress by trying to start singing more 'cheerful' song, I do admit that this is not her best song like My Heart WGO, Because U Love Me, or even If U asked me too but I think this song is very energic yet there is sadness behind all of those remix and Celine can bring those up...if you watch her n=track listing in her newest album you'll see that Sorry For Love (Originally from ANDHC album) appears again and I just love this song..so energic and I hope she will make it as her single....YOU ROCK CELINE!!!

I loved the song when Cyndi Lauper did it. It was so dynamic and really soared. This version pales in comparision. It even sounds a bit twangy in parts.

Although it's not her best work, I think it's still a good one. She displays her wonderful vocals and capability to be diverse in this upbeat remake of a classic song. I believe that it's beautiful, the way she turned what could be a 'sappy song' into a 'happy song.' Clever, this song will linger on the radio and in the clubs for at least a couple months. Celine does it again!

it's sad that a person with this much vocal talent can sing without a hint of any emotion. Cyndi Lauper may not have the voice but when you listen to her version you could swear she was singing from the bottom of her heart. Celine sounds like she's bored and just waiting for her next huge royalty check.

Well, Roy Orbison made it a classic. Cyndi Lauper covered it and made it a classic again. And now Celine Dion has turned it into, yes, another classic. This time, it's a kind of techno-pop dance tune that the Pet Shop Boys could have produced. Speaking of the Pet Shop Boys, this version of 'Drove All Night' features some pretty heavy echo effects and filtered voice gimmicks, too, which make Celine sound rather eerie or dreamy -- depending on how you hear it. But the effects go well with the burning-yearning theme of the song. What a voice! The kids'll be dancin' to this one in the clubs.

Celine Dion is losing very rapidly. After dreadful songs like 'A New Day has Come' and that track from the Stuart Little 2 Soundtrack (can't remember the name), Celine continues to sink lower and lower. All her song are becoming so boring. They are meaningless and lifeless. I only give her credit for her vocals, but other than that this song is just another drag. What happened to the singer who brought us songs like 'My Heart will Go On' and 'Thats the way it is' ???
