THO 100 Update for the week ending October 10, 2009

This week Madonna does what no other artist has done since 2005... her single "Celebration" returns to the top of the THO 100 after a previous two-week run on the Sept 26 and Oct 3 charts. Last week she gave way to Shakira's "She Wolf," which drops to #3 this week. In early 2005, Green Day's "Boulevard Of Broken Drams" spent 13 weeks atop the chart, then allowed Gwen Stefani's "Rich Girl" a week at the top before return to #1 for a single week. Further down the chart, Jay-Z (featuring Alicia Keys) has the greatest point gainer for the second straight week with "Empire State Of Mind." Britney Spears has a huge debut at #44 with "3." Other debuts come from Chipmunk, Editors, Backstreet Boys, Alicia Keys, Train, and The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart.

THO 100 Update for the week ending April 12, 2008

Rock band Muse are currently riding their 11th THO hit, which may end up being their biggest. This week "Uprising" is both the largest point gainer and has the largest chart move. It is their biggest hit since "Starlight" in 2006. Muse hails from England, and they will soon release their fifth studio album "The Resistance" on September 15th in the U.S., on which "Uprising" can be found. No big surprises at the top of the chart, as the Black Eyed Peas and Green Day hold on to #1 and #2, respectively. Shakira looks poised to shake things up next week, as she moves from #6 to #3 on this chart.

THO 100 Update for the week ending June 6, 2009

It's not everyday that a female-led rock band reaches the upper regions of the THO 100. But this week the Yeah Yeah Yeahs break into the top 10 with their hit "Zero." It is actually their fourth THO hit, following "Maps" (2004), "Gold Lion" (2006) and "Turn Into" (2006). "Gold Lion" was their previous highest-charting song, reaching #15. Female solo artists usually reach much higher levels of overall popularity, and this weeks' chart is a shining example of that. Seven of the top 10 singles are from female solo artists. Green Day's "Know Your Enemy" is the only band/artist in the top 10 with a male singer.

THO 100 Update for week ending May 9, 2009

The same song is both the largest point gainer and the largest chart mover on the latest THO 100 chart. It is Green Day's "Know Your Enemy" from their upcoming album "21st Century Breakdown." It is their 24th chart entry on the THO 100 and looks to possibly become their fourth #1 hit. But for now that distinction still belongs to Lady GaGa and her "Poker Face." The Black Eyed Peas and Girls Aloud both enter the top 10 with their latest singles, plus there are 10 new entries on the new chart.
